The various factors that have been identified to influence adolescent’s life include internal and external family factors. Over the past fifty years, many studies suggest that the quality of parents-child relationship, family type, economic resource, and gender stereotype are the main factors affecting child adolescent adjustment (Baker & Riley, 1996. Brescoll & Uhlmann, 2005. Corwyn & Bradley, 1999. De Luccie, 2001. Hao, 1996. Lamb, 2012. Nelson, 2004).

First and foremost, the quality of relationships between the parents and their children significantly determines how the children behave in a social environment. A past study indicates that the development process is enhanced through effects on the parental sensitivity on the infant-parent attachment that in turn predicts the differences in various aspect of the adjustment process (Lamb, 2012). In addition, mothers who act as the gatekeepers discouraging fathers from participating in child care activities change the child adjustment in terms of the perception regarding the father figure. As the result, the children see the fathers as a distance figure hence limiting their father role in a father-child relationship in the future (De Luccie, 2001). In terms of child’s influence, Gursoy & Bicakci (2007) confirm that the conduct between spouses plays a vital role in their child’s development. Precisely, child adolescent adjustment impacts by the degree of investment in the practice of parenting by both parents.

Secondly, the family structure has also shown a significant influence on the children and adolescents’ adjustment processes. According to a study conducted by Hao’s (1996), the wealth is enormous for an intact family, step-families, or single-father families than cohabiting families and single-mother families. Another research carried out by Lamb show that the majority of children and adolescents who spend childhoods away from one of the parent adjust positively to the environment (Lamb, 2012).
