the authors stress that leadership is the imperative in improving the performance of the groups, organizations, and societies as a whole at the same time that communication is integral to leadership (Hackman & Johnson 2002). Operating on the fact that leadership involves an interactive process where leaders and followers create collaborative goals, Hackman and Johnson (2002) emphasize that understanding the leadership process together with the communication among the participants will enable an organization to function more efficient. Understanding and putting these into practice will make the attainment of collective goals easier. Effective leadership and communication do not only enhance skills but will also promote harmonious relationship between leader and follower.

The book also sets the difference between the different types of leadership styles and defines the traits of the leaders in these techniques. It also offers a view of how power is distributed in an organization and how influence is built. Aside from acquainting me with the different theories of leadership, the book is an eye-opener which makes me rethink of my leadership strategy as an educational leader. The approach of using case studies in presenting the theoretical concepts broadened and deepened my understanding of the concerns of different organizations.
