This was after Cuba was established to be a communist country after Fidel Castro overthrew Batista. The raising of the Berlin Wall was taken symbolically to mean that there was a division between the West and the East. The struggle for citizen’s hearts and minds to take sides through fear was being used by both sides, the USSR and the USA.
