In all political, social and industrial sectors, leaders have to follow specific rules making sure that the interests of the public/ employees will not be harmed. Current paper focuses on the examination and the analysis of the leadership practices followed by two different leaders: Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair. Both the above leaders have been related with the political scene of Britain for quite a long period. Their decisions have affected the country’s political, social and financial infrastructure. Their leadership styles and methods will be analyzed and compared trying to identify the reasons why the above politicians/ leaders followed specific patterns of leadership and which have been the consequences of their decisions in the country’s political, social and financial framework. Of course, their decisions have been based on specific facts and needs, however, it could be examined whether these were the most appropriate decisions taken into account the political and social conditions of their era.

In order to understand the forms and the impact of leadership in a country’s political and social life (since the leaders chosen in the specific paper have been involved in politics) it would be necessary to refer primarily to the general characteristics of leadership as a political and social phenomenon. In this context, it is noticed that ‘leadership has been defined in terms of individual personality traits, leader behaviors, responses to leader behaviors, interpersonal exchange relationships, interaction patterns, role relationships, follower perceptions, task goals, organizational culture, and nature of work processes’ (Rost, 1991, Yukl, 1989 in Mello, 2003, 345).
