An example of how ANOVA can be applied would be in food manufacturing/operations. More specifically, a donut shop! As the owner of a donut shop, you want to see if this new donut flavor (butter pecan) has significantly different sales versus the tried and trusted flavors (chocolate and glazed). With ANOVA, you will be able to see if there is significance in the difference of sales. You could also run this same test after doing a survey of customers and basing the data off of taste, rather than sales.
An ANOVA test could also be run on production to see if different shifts throughout the day produce a significantly different number of donuts. Using this information from all these different ANOVA tests, the donut shop owner will know what sorts of donuts to advertise and which flavors to produce more or less.
