The purpose of the discussion question is to allow you to demonstrate your understanding of the unit’s key learning points and how you might apply them in a given situation. Participating in the discussion question forum provides you with an opportunity to compare your ideas to ideas from others in your class.

During the early days of e-commerce, the first-mover advantage was touted as one way to success. On the other hand, some suggest that being a market follower can yield rewards as well. Which approach has proven to be more successful—first-mover or follower? Choose two e-commerce companies that prove your point and explain why to your classmates.

To earn full credit, post an initial response of a minimum of 500 words that includes at least one APA citation and the associated reference.

ASSIGNMENT

Visit worldbank.org, wto.org, and imf.org and learn about the concept of utilities of value chains.  After gaining an appreciation for value chains, choose a sector, and argue whether a global value chain may benefit the sector’s member companies.  For example, one may argue the following point:

• The textile sector (responsible for supplying cloth to markets) may benefit from global value chains (GVCs) because they facilitate exporting textiles to previously untapped emerging markets.
