Do squares exist? This sounds like a ridiculous question, but Plato (author of our text) is very, very interested. Let's start with a definition. What is a square? It's a two-dimensional geometrical figure of four lines that make four equal straight sides and four right angles. Right? Now we know the world is made of particles/atoms and their parts. Are those parts two dimensional? Do they ever form perfect right angles? Are those sides ever actually straight? Nope, not at all. Even with straight lines and perfect angles, the best we can get is a 3D rectangular prism. All particles are 3D.So, once more, do squares exist? Plato concludes (in the Republic) that Squares exist in "the Realm of Forms", which is more perfect that the physical world. Other philosophers concluded things like squares only exist in the mind of God. What do you think? Please write 250 words in response. Do not plagiarize.
