This statewide Key Assessment evaluates candidates’ abilities to analyze a complex data set to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses within a school's actual data.  The assignment is divided into two sections:

  • Part A.: Analysis of Data and Part B.:Action Plan Year 1 School Improvement.
    • In Part A, candidates analyze a set of classroom data to identify areas of strengths, areas of weaknesses, and noted trends.  Candidates also investigate rapid school turn-around and strategies that align with the areas of weakness identified in Section A.
  • In Section B, candidates develop a Targeted Action Plan for grade level/school improvement to achieve turn-around goals.

Part A: Analysis of Data: You should find MAAP data (3rd -8th Grade) or MAAP Subject Area Testing for High School (Algebra, US History, Biology, English)

You may NOT use K-2 data, Benchmark data, or teacher-made tests.

Your task is to select a set of classroom data or grade level and analyze the data available for that school (Part A).  You will develop an action plan for classroom/school improvement in Part B.  You must focus on immediate actions for year 1 (the Turnaround year). Please use the provided rubric from which a grade is determined.

Please note:  If you can get your school's data for a particular grade level or subject area, you are free to use that data. The data you choose, either MAAP, or subject area testing, etc., should have the particular standards broken down so you can identify the weak subject area and the weak standard in which students need improvement. If the data you have selected does not contain this information, you need to gather additional data to have this information.  If you do not, you will have trouble completing Part B of this assignment.

  1. Select the classroom/grade-level data.

2.. Your task now is to analyze your summary MAAP data. Use the provided template to fill in the information for the analysis. Use the sample/guide to assist you in completing the blank template correctly!

  • Learn what research has to say about effective practices in turning around and transforming schools and
  • In Part B, you will take this analysis and create an improvement action plan for your chosen school.
