Drugs in Society

Some of the Discussion Questions have more than one issue posed. Make sure you respond to all of the issues. When you state an opinion on an issue, explain why that you have that opinion. What I look for is the reasoning that goes with the opinion, not the opinion. We will have differing opinions throughout the course, but that does not matter at all. That is what makes for interesting discussion.

Society draws a line between licit and illicit drugs and how they are dealt with. Talk about some examples and describe situations where the use of licit drugs can result in abuse. Alcohol is the obvious one, but look beyond that with some examples. What substance classified as a âdrugâ is the most surprising to you.

The materials discuss the global "industry" called the drug trade. The "industry" is a mammoth one no matter how one describes it. Suggest some non-traditional ideas for what can be done to dismantle this "industry". Think about prior approaches the illicit organizations and how effective they were, and also think outside of the box, so to speak, and suggest other approaches.
