Each student will do some research and analysis on four insurance plans offered by a federally-facilitated health insurance exchange (marketplace). For this assignment you will need to download the "Assignment #5 Template" from WebCourses in the same module as this assignment. The template includes a completed submission example on one sheet and then an empty sheet for you to complete.

You need to start by answering 2 questions:

Which non-Florida zip code will you use?

Which insurance company(ies) will you research (e.g. United, Humana, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, etc.)?

Part One: Deciding on a zip code

You should pick a zip code for a state with a federally-facilitated exchange that is also outside of the State of Florida. The list of states below have federally-facilitated exchanges.

AL, AK, AZ, FL (do not choose FL), GA, IN, KS, LA, ME, MS, MO, MT, NE, NJ, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WY

Part Two: Deciding on an Insurance Company

Use the website: https://www.healthcare.gov/see-plans/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. to find all available insurance product offerings for your selected zip code. To find products, input your zip code. Then hit "skip" and "next" until you see "Continue to Plans" or "Continue to Full-Priced Plans." Then pick at least four insurance product offerings, including one from each metal level (bronze, silver, gold, and platinum). If a platinum plan is not available, you may substitute another metal. Some states do not have platinum plans.

Part Three: Complete Template

Each student should select four insurance products from any insurance company and fill out the template titled "Assignment #4 Cost-Sharing Template" in Webcourses. Be sure to indicate the metal type for each plan in the template.

Part Four: Analysis for Decision Making

Students should then analyze each of the products and determine which product he/she would recommend to their healthy college-aged friends to purchase.  These students don't want to spend much money on their premiums, but they are eligible for cost-sharing reductions (subsidies) (as described in this week's lecture). (Assume that the cost-sharing reductions will be paid for by the federal government.) You will provide your rationale in the appropriate spot in the Assignment template sheet.  Do not forget to provide the rationale.
