intro - J.K. Rowling, a writer of the famous Harry Potter series, once said, “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.” The quote relates in a way to the people of Maycomb. Most were racist and sexist, but the Finch family was not. Atticus and Scout stood up for the things they thought were wrong. They both took risks, knowing the outcome might not be what they want.
conclusion - The characters Atticus and Scout, in To Kill a Mockingbird showed courage by taking risks, though the outcome may not be in their favor. Atticus had defended Tom Robinson, though he knew he would not win. Scout stood up for herself when Aunt Alexandra was rude to her about her clothing choices. The choices they made were either small or big, but truly defined their character.
