QUESTION

equality

in a 150 words reply and answer to below

Therefore, I beg to question whether the equality of opportunity is an ideal that we can ever truly reach?

Thank you for sharing your story.  As a teacher who has worked in the inner city and one of the wealthiest suburbs in New Jersey, I understand the difficult part of equality of opportunity.  Social mobility is difficult for all socioeconomic classes because the opportunity that exists is dominated by the resources of those who have more wealth, which provides not only better educational resources but a circle of connections that open up doors more easily for those close to them.  I read an article several months ago that stated that if the wealthy ever wanted to form a truly equal society, which the wealthiest states such as California and New York profess, then these people need to be okay with not providing the resources that they have to their children and future generations.  In other words, the wealthy would need to be okay with not providing the best for their future generations.  If I generalize this perspective to my own life, I would find it hard not to provide my children with the greatest opportunity of success and happiness.  If I find that hard, then it is hard for me to criticize others who are acting the same.  For this reason, politicians may profess certain ideals, but in reality, the wealthy of both parties do not truly want to provide equal opportunities because it would mean that they would have to sacrifice and give up the potential future of their loved ones.  Therefore, I beg to question whether the equality of opportunity is an ideal that we can ever truly reach?
