Every year, politicians run on a promise to fight crime. Likewise, the media gobbles up everything it can on crime (a form of deviance) – in fact the news media would be hurting for something to say if they couldn’t talk about crime. Ordinary citizens – especially more vulnerable people in society – are afraid of crime. SO – as a budding sociologist, how might we explain crime? What are the reasons why society is so filled with crime? And, knowing why crimes exist in our society, are there solutions that you might recommend to the next politician who wants to run on a platform of eliminating crime? Explain.
