Assignment #3: Community Based Field Experience Project (100 points)The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate the connections you were able to make between the college-based academic part of the course and the field experience or practical application/service learning part of the course.You will develop a creative but also informative, (20 slide) PowerPoint presentation about your selected agency that includes information listed below in “Content to Include in Presentation”. Be SURE to refer to the handout PowerPoint Presentations Do’s and Dont’s that can be found in the documents with this assignment. This assignment is based on what you learned during your field experience. REMINDER: The field experience cannot be done in a childcare center or program (including short term care such as a gym, the YMCA, etc.), school classroom, after school program (YMCA, etc.), or any other classroom setting. As part of this assignment, you should collect anecdotal information, literature, and other materials that will further document both your personal growth and development and the acquisition of the knowledge and skills that are to be gained from this course. You should also take photos of your experiences. Some organizations will not allow you to photograph clients, so you may have to have someone take photo of you engaged in your work. Another idea is to photograph the outside of the building. You may have to get creative!As you interact with the individuals at your selected agency, collect as much data as possible through reviews of the agency website, the reading of brochures or pamphlets, and your personal conversationsContent to Include in PowerPoint Presentation(Each question must be fully addressed in presentation) What is the history of your agency? What “problem” does your agency attempt to solve, or what “need” does it address? What is the purpose or mission statement of agency? What are its goals? How is this agency funded? What types of services or activities are provided by the agency? How many persons (or families, children, etc.) does it impact in a specified amount of time? For example: “XYZ serves 200,000 children in its ABC program yearly and 100,000 families in its DEF program.” Information about the field experience activities you were actually engaged in or the services you provided at the selected program or agency What assumptions did you have about working with children and families at the beginning of the course? What ways were these assumptions were reinforced, changed, or challenged as a result of your field experience/service learning opportunity? How did your field experience/service learning opportunity help you to see the partnership between schools, families, or communities from another perspective; what things about that partnership continues to be hard for you or that you still wonder about; and/or the things you learned about the importance/influence of families on children’s learning You must include actual photographs (not clip art) of your involvement experiences along with explanations of the interactions that have been captured. NOTE: Most organizations will not allow you to photograph the children and/or families it serves, however you can take photos of other parts of your experience. Get creative!
