QUESTION

FOR EXCEPTIONAL GENIUS ONLY

After each of the two required WC visits, a reflection of the tutorial will need to be written.

The reflection should be 400 words and should be posted to this forum during the same week as your writing center visit. If your reflection is posted later than the expected time frame, you won’t receive credit for the response.

The reflection should include, but is not limited to, a discussion of the following aspects:

  • the name of your tutor
  • the date of the tutorial
  • what the tutorial was focused on
  • what was helpful about the tutorial
  • what was unhelpful about the tutorial
  • how the tutorial made you more aware of your writing
  • how you felt about the tutorial before and after the visit (excited, nervous, bitter, etc.)

Your second writing center visit reflection should cover the same information buy also include a comparison to the first visit, including a preference between the two styles of tutors

example;

The name of my tutor is named Nicole and she was super sweet and approachable. I did not once feel uncomfortable talking to her as she gave insightful comments. The date of my tutorial was on Wednesday, February 17 at 9am. Before I came to the tutorial, I was a bit nervous; finding ways to get out of it. I would try to leave my house later than usual to give the excuse of "it was way too traffic" or "I woke up late", just to avoid human interaction at such an early time. But I was able to put on my big girl pants on and leave at the usual time. When I arrived to the writing center I was on time and met my tutor. The tutorial was focused on my first essay; to see what I can improve and what I can add to make this essay well developed. I thought, “what better way to complete the writing center visitation assignment than with the help on my first essay?” We sat down on a table and we discussed my introduction, organization of my essay, and conclusion. Although time was limited, we were able to talk about a lot of things that benefited me to bring out better ideas onto my essay. Everything was helpful about the tutorial. Each category that we discussed helped me build a stronger introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion. Every part of my essay started flowing and making sense; interesting the reader in a way that they would want to go to the campus resource that I wrote about. Something that was unhelpful was the fact that I did most of the talking – which I totally get, knowing that I’m the one that needs help and she needs to know what I need help on. But it almost seemed like I was giving her ideas to say more about my essay than her coming up with her own (but it’s also probably just me being excited about improving my essay and that I would not stop talking). The tutorial helped me become more aware of my writing and how I introduce a topic to someone and how to close off an essay on “good terms”: not leaving the readers questioning what in the world I was talking about. After the visit, I was satisfied with the outcome. I felt excited to add on to my essay and complete it; knowing that I took time to mold into the essay I wanted it to be.
