Assignment:

Your prompt for this first discussion is as follows:

Now that you have read the articles & watched the videos in the module on Feminist Social Work & Anti-Oppressive Practices & Empowerment, please respond to the following and answer every part of each question:

1.In light of the trend toward globalization and the increase in people's rights in the US, including those who have newer freedoms, such as minorities and women, and in light of legislative and judicial acts like the Equal Pay Act and Marriage Equality laws, do you believe that empowerment, anti-oppressive, and feminist perspectives and practice are still relevant?

2. Please provide some examples to justify your beliefs - and be sure to cite the information related to your examples (please do not use personal examples, rather, use examples from modern history)

3. As a practicing social worker, how might one incorporate feminist, empowerment, and anti-oppressive practices in their work with clients and client systems?

  • Please do not forget to include properly cited research in your initial response - initial responses are a minimum of 250 words and a maximum of 750 words.
  • YOU MUST  USE A QUOTE  OR CITATION FROM A DIFFERENT SCHOLARY JOURNAL, (NOT THE ONES I HAVE PROVIDED FOR YOU).  IT MUST BE IN APA FORMAT. (INSTRUCTIONS ARE BELOW)

*note that a scholarly source is one that has been published in a journal or has been peer-reviewed; while at times, it is acceptable to use research from the internet, '.com' references should be avoided (.com stands for commerce - stick to .gov, .edu, .org).  The course readings, while they may be scholarly, do not count.  You must do research beyond the weekly expected reading - however, you can (and should) cite them along with other material.
