Your task in this assignment is to construct the best argument you can for a postion on a controversial topic.  Your arguement should be your own creation.  You may take inspiration from other arguemnts, but the information of the arguement you present should be original to you.  

Prepare:  Choose your topic

1.  Is it ever permissable to torture a person?

2.  Shoud athletes be allowed to use performance-enhancing drugs (such as steroids or EPO) or techniques such as (blood doping or oxygen tanks?

3.  Should universal healthcare be available to all regardless of their ability to pay in the same way that other services (such as education) are available to all for free?

4.  Does social media enhance or hinder interpersonal relationships?

5.  Is it important to teach the arts and humanities to children?

Construct an arguement for a position on one of those topics.  This is the position that you will defend in your Final paper.  Make your argument as high quality as possible.  In particular, make sure that all your premises are true and that the truth of the conclusion is demonstrated by your premises.

Consider possilbe objections to yur argument, and revise it several times ntil you have an arguement that is as stong as possible.

Constructing quality arguements is harder than it sounds, you may find that your first attempts have problems and that it takes quite a bit of time  and effort to revise an arguemnt to a point that premises adequately support the conclusion.  You will be revising this argement for each of the remaining assingments in this class.

Write:  

Present a main arguemnet in standard form with each premise and the conclusion on a seperate line.  Here is an example of what it means for an arguemnt to be presented in standard form.

All men are mortal.

Socrates is a man.

Therefore, Socrates is mortal.

Provide support for each premise arguement.  Explain the mening of the premise, and provide supporting evidence for the premise (one paragraph for each premise).

      Pay special attention to those premises that could be seen as controversial.  Evidence may include academic research sources, supporting arguemnts, or other ways of demonstrating the truth of the premise.

Explain how your conclusions foolows your presmises.

The Intial Arguement Paper

Must be 400-600 words in length (not including the title and reference page).  APA writing Style

Must include seperate page for title page.

Must use at least one scholoarly source in addition to the course text.
