From the point of view of an angiosperm, what is the function of fruit?
The principal botanical function of a fruit is the protection and dissemination of the seeds.
Fruit is the seed bearing structure in flowering plants, formed from the ovary after flowering.
Some fruits harden, to make accessing the seed difficult. Many fruits promote wind dispersal. Some fruits have hooks or Spurs which cling to animals and are dispersed to far off places. Fruits like pods, rip open forcefully when dry, flinging out the seeds. Brightly coloured fleshy fruits attract animals and birds and are eaten by them. They pass through the digestive tract unharmed and are thus dispersed away from the parent plant.
