Hello everyone, the reason that carbohydrates are the primary source of energy for cells rather than other macromolecules is because that's their main function. The purpose of carbohydrates is to break down and supply energy to the cell in the process of it. Only after that is when other macromolecules such as fats would be used. Cells prefer to use carbohydrates as a main source of energy because of how easily they can be broken down over fats and proteins. Fats are used primarily to store energy and proteins are used to make other proteins and structures in the cell.
