As mentioned earlier, it is difficult to detect these instances of medical illness in the adult caretaker. However, once it is diagnosed, it is important to remove the child or elderly from the dangerous situation in order for them to receive the proper medical and mental care to help them get over the trauma of what happened to them. The abuser is also taken in for treatment that often includes individual and family therapy.
