Knowledge-based, theoretical, and personal connections have jointly influenced and developed my practice. The key theoretical aspects that have been applied in my practice described in this section are based on the eclectic approach and include the Systems theory, Developmental theory especially Erik Erikson psychological stages of development and Bowl by Attachment theory, Feminist theory, Grief and loss, Anti-oppressive theory, Cultural competence among others. These shall be linked together in my description to provide an in-depth understanding of the phenomenal applications in real practice.
Cultural competence is the ability to interact efficiently with people of diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds (Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), 2004). A social worker according to Mattison, (2000) is expected to be able o relate well and effectively with people from various cultural and professional backgrounds hence the application of the various related theories described herein ineffective understanding of my clients.
