228).

The 3x3 matrix model considers an organization as a system which comprises of inputs, outputs and processes. Common inputs are group and organization design, strategy, individual characteristics and task environment while design components like technology, human resource and measurement systems, culture, and task structure, identity and significance autonomy can be used for converting inputs into outputs (Cox et al, 2011, p. 229). Outputs include things like return on investment, personal and group effectiveness. The matrix considers all three levels of problem evaluation (individual, team, and organization) while considering three features of operations called inputs, outputs and design considerations) (Cox et al, 2011, p. 230). It is assumed that if the integrations b/w inputs and design components are good then operations must be successful.

Designing a successful OD strategy depends on the ability to collect authoritative and reliable data. Several issues that can compromise validity and/or reliability include the way data is gathered, the method of recording the data and giving it back to organization and the existence of a rapport among the data gatherer and organization members (Cox et al, 2011, p. 231). There are various benefits of data collection which include formation of a rapport between employees and consultant makes employees actively participate in diagnosing what needs to be changed. The tools used for collecting data include interviews, surveys and questionnaires (Cox et al, 2011, p. 231). The last aspect of data collection is providing the data collected to organization’s members. However, before this is done it must be ensured that data collected is valid. The entire stage is the platform for building upon the OD program (Cox et al, 2011, p. 231).

Data collected needs to be coded or interpreted otherwise it is of no use. This is divided into three stages out of which
