Once Lyndon Johnson took over office, he acted fast so as to institute measures and legislations that helped further the civil rights movement. His call for the end of segregation and implementation of laws that permitted the minorities to vote essentially brought the end to the golden era of the civil rights movements.
On the other hand, a few events prolonged the fight for equal rights. The assassinations of John F. Kennedy as well as Martin Luther King, Jnr. were such events.
