It is a memory model that makes use of interlinked network nodes to retrieve information. The process works in such a way that, when one point is triggered, information spreads through the network to retrieve associated information. Priming is used as a method to cause this activation (Keen &. Townsend, n.d). An example of a prime-stimulus pair. an experiment can be conducted where participants are expected to match pairs of words. An example could be spoons, knives, plates and so on. These are matched based on an instruction that one should, may be press a button when the word belongs to a specific category, and another when it belongs to a different category. A priming stimulus is introduced, for example in the above case. cutlery. Cutlery is a priming stimulus that will speed up the recognition of words and categorizing them in the same group. A prime stimulus pair that would produce priming would therefore be. plates, knife, and spoon. A prime stimulus pair that would not produce priming would be. plate, mango, and car. Categorization could be a method of improving memory or increasing accessibility to information. This is because of the effect of priming that triggers easy memory of words or items that belong to a specific category. ...
The Loci Technique This is a technique of improving memory through designation of objects to be remembered to specific places that a person is familiar with. An example that illustrates the technique is as follows. Mr. S is a Russian with an extraordinary memory. He explained how he placed things in different places to improve his memory. Mr. S. mentally put each object in a specific place that he was familiar to, for example, he would create a scene with various objects like a violin, a dog, a tree and so on. Such a scene would be composed based on a familiar street. For him to remember an object, he would simply imagine walking down the street and find various objects in their respective places along the imaginary street. One can therefore, decide on a loci and mentally place different items for easy retrieval and improved memory (Barkus, 2000). Eidetic Memory This is another technique that uses imagery. One can form mental pictures and use them for memory purposes. that is, whenever an individual wants to remember something, he or she can use the pictures to find out whatever it is. The technique is almost similar to the Loci technique. Pictures can be designated as A B and C, or as desired by the individual who wants his or her memory improved. Respective pictures have specific designated objects or memories. So, if for example, one sets his or her mind to remember terror and its events. One would create a picture A, of the September 2011 event. From this picture, an individual can have specific events, objects to remember from specific designated imaginary pictures within the main picture (Barkus, 2000). Imagery integrates information into a single coherent structure.
