Further research by Nzaeko and Hamdi (Nzaeko BC, 2000) indicate that strains of E. coli and P. aeruginosa show inhibition levels of up to 40%. P. aeruginosa produces an enzyme elastase, which has been shown to be one of the main virulent factors of these bacteria.
