Henry David Thoreau's "Resistance to Civil Government."  He claims that it is not just our right as Americans, but we also have to defy unjust laws.  This is a very American idea.  Part of the American identity involves intervening in the face of injustice. I must say I completely agree with this point.  Henry David Thoreau made a huge point that the American government doesn’t show democracy. Thoreau wanted to explain why he believed that "Resistance to Civil Government."  was sometimes the right way to go in response to government actions. The government does not care about us or our people. They look at us as if we are beneath them. Thoreau wanted the citizens to follow their morals and distance themselves from unfair, injustice crooked governments. Thoreau went to prison. While in prison he was explaining the circumstances of his night in jail.  He explained how it helped build the characteristic spirit of a culture in its beliefs and aspirations. The laws are made to protect and serve us, but the government twists the laws by having too much power. ‘’When the power is once in the hands of the people, a majority are permitted’’. (Thoreau. 1849. Pp 904).  Thoreau chooses to follow his conscience and practice civil resistance. Boundaries should be pushed and tested. We should fight about injustice. ‘’Nor ever through compromise and fear’’. (Hughes. 1949. Pp 1042).  We as Americans should have the free development of our emotions and pick and choose what we want to do without consequences. ‘’I have as much right’’ (Hughes, 1949. Pp 1042). We as the democracy need to step up. Sometimes things cannot take their course without actions. Every day that goes by things seems to never get done. ‘’ Tomorrow is another day. I do not need my freedom when I’m dead’; (Hughes 1949 pp 1043). For example, let’s use president Trump. I have nothing against but his ways, his actions, and his intentions seem wrong. He has power and money. A little too much power to be exact.
