Several of the tavern characters (Falstaff, Mistress Quickly, Bardolph) from Henry IV reappear albeit briefly in Henry V.  Generally, however, their former comic functions have become tragic.  Talk about how this happens (especially with Falstaff's offstage death) and more importantly, why you think Shakespeare needed to have his lovable, comic characters meet such tragic fates in the next play.
