Here are some of my decisions that I have made in my personal life:

I acted rationally when I decided to immigrate to the U.S. It was a hard decision for me as I was not going to see my homeland anymore. I had to be rational and think about my purpose. My country's economy is dead and there is no room for success. So, I had to put my feelings aside and travel to the unknown to achieve my dreams. I confronted bounded rationality when I was going to start my Amazon seller account. I decided to search for more information and absorb all the knowledge that I can before starting the account. I always try to decide based on other-regarding preferences when I am driving, I tend to yield to somebody who is trying to merge into the rush hour traffic. I let the other car go first when we both reach the stop sign at the same time. Also, I decided to live close to my grandfather's house for mom's comfort. She cannot speak a word of English and she would be depressed if we live far from my grandfather. Living this close to my grandfather is costing me a 20-mile commute to work every day. I could just live somewhere near my work, but I am doing this because of mom's condition.

My question is: how does the trade-off between self-interest and rationality apply to my decisions?
