Anemia is a disease that can strike an individual at any age while others are inherited from parents with the condition. It is also noted that some types of anemia are severe, incurable, and capable of killing while others are mild and can easily be treated. Therefore, it is important for an individual to keep seeking medical attention in case one suspects that he or she is suffering from the disease so that appropriate treatment can be provided.&nbsp.Garrison (2009) reveals that there are about 400 types of anemia that an individual can suffer. However, the most common types are Iron-deficiency anemia, Pernicious anemia, Plastic anemia, Sickle Cell and Trauma-related anemia. Iron-deficiency anemia is considered the most common and occurs when the body cells cannot manufacture adequate hemoglobin. It is also common among women at the childbearing age and is catalyzed by menstruation and pregnancy (Garrison, 2009). Plastic anemia, on the other hand, occurs due to the inability of intestines to absorb adequate vitamin B-12. Plastic anemia is mainly caused by the destruction of the born marrow by things like accidents or chemical agents. Sickle Cell is one that is hereditary in which the red cells become crescent-shaped.
