The significance and impact of exercise on good health has been acknowledged and accepted by medical authorities globally. Increased physical activity is known to have a direct relationship with improved health. Research indicates that people who lack a healthy routine and are used to sedentary lifestyles are twice as vulnerable to serious health risks and at times even pre-mature death. Apart from such biological impact, lack of exercise and nutrition is also known to trigger off a series of psychological disturbances such as hypertension, stress, hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease and heart stroke. Exercising drastically lowers the risks of chronic illnesses such as heart diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure and even prevents certain types of cancers. It also helps in preventing obesity by keeping the weight in check.

Physical exercise ensures and promotes psychological well-being, and reduces stress levels significantly in both adults as well as children. Children today are highly glued to their computers and television sets leading to an inactive lifestyle. A significant proportion of young children in recent times have been diagnosed as clinically obese and with type 2 diabetes, which were originally prevalent largely among adults. Such children with unhealthy conditions are at a significant risk of contracting life threatening diseases as they grow up such as high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases including heart stroke. Such progression can lead to devastating effects and can be curbed through proper diet and regular exercise.
