This essay further aims to define a great person as put down by these different philosophers. The thoughts of these philosophers are integrated together to present what a great person would possess in real to be rightly called so.

A great person should have many qualities as defined by the philosophers in their own words and conditions. According to Plato a good philosopher should always have the qualities of a great ruler. One would raise the question as to what a great ruler would really possess that would rightly help him to pronounce so? Plato defines this great ruler as someone having the capabilities of differentiating between good and bad. This great person would never be able to handle lies and would always object upon them. Moreover he defined the love for knowledge and wisdom to be a trait that a great person would have along with the yearning for truth. It is stated in The Philosopher Ruler in these words “So the man who has a real love of learning will yearn for the whole truth from his earliest years” (Platon & Lee 2003. Smith 1998). However this definition only limits to the realms of Plato and may not extend up to defining a great person. Machiavelli was another person who defined a great person in a different context. He believed that anything would bring political order was the righteous deed for all the people living in the society. He did not believe in moral rules or ethics if they were disturbing the norms of the world. In his belief a great person would be an individual who would not think about morals or truthfulness but would rather work for something which would bring political order in the society. The question arises now as to Was this a correct definition of a great person? (Skinner & Machiavelli 1995).
