Rummel reports that only 0.14% of the population of democracies died annually due to internal conflicts between 1900 and 1987. During the same period, authoritarian and totalitarian systems recorded 0.59% and 1.48% respectively with the same result indicating that citizens of democracies are not likely to die from government-initiated causes.
