In an effort to mitigate increasing pollution from petroleum-based fuels, major automobile manufacturers have intensified research and development projects on alternative energy sources for automobiles (Smith 2012, p. 117). .
Apparently, the idea of electricity-powered engines has been around since the early 19th Century.
