Not only that, he criticized and attacks others who have the same defects the he hates in himself.

Werther is always searching for a mother figure because his relationship with his mother was full of troubles and complications. There was no direct insult to his mother but his dislike to her is spread throughout the whole text. He shows his need for a family, if not his own, it could be others.

Toward the end of the novel, Lotte' refers to Werther's search for idealism by accusing him that he pursues her only because she is impossible to reach, as she is a thoughtful woman who holds to her principles. Conclusion

With regards to women, Werther fails to win Lotte' as he was really searching for a mother and Lotte' was the perfect replacement. As he failed to marry her, he commits suicide.

Language was rich as it clearly represented the characters' deep emotions and conflict in Werther's letters. Nature also reflected the feelings of the main characters as their moods change according to weather.

Werther was torn with his conflicts and contradictions. He was always self absorbed, proud of his suffering, did not care much about himself, and gave much more attention to his feelings.

The romantic hero during his pursuit for the perfect world that did not exist was tormented and indulged by sadness and disparity to himself and to those that surrounded him only to be relieved by death.
