Hi there,

This is an organic chemistry question. I did the extraction of Eugenol from Cloves using steam

distillation. The distillate was then placed in a seperating funnel to 10 ml of dichloromethane ( denser than water). My question is which is the organic layer the top or the bottom? I am thinking the bottom will be the (eugenol + dichloromethane mixture).

When adding water to check which is the aqueous layer, I did not notice much of a change in both layers?
