A global information system is utilized across one or more national borders and attempts to offer the totality of measurable information globally. On the other hand, an information system in a single country is intended to be utilized within its borders. The similarity that exists in the two is that they are intended to offer totality of measurable data within the defined contexts.  When it comes to the development of global information systems, it is usually a tough task (Melville, 2010). The reason is that multinational organizations operate in regions that are quite far apart and have different time zones as well as cultures. Organizing the activities, aligning of the tasks and people’s mindsets who are far apart and to alter the manner in which a business is carried out by using information systems presents a major challenge.

 On the other hand, developing an information system project within a single is an easier task. For this case, the various organizations operate within a single region and very few time zones. In addition, the various cultures are not so far away. Organizing activities and the mindsets of the persons that are not so far apart and altering the way that business is carried out by utilizing Information Systems is not a huge challenge.
