Holistic Perspective and Raybeck
Part 1. The main idea behind the holistic perspective in anthropology is that all parts of culture integrate together to form a whole, interconnected cultural system. Based on your readings for this week, how do these different systems (production, exchange, political, legal, and domestic) interconnect together? For example, do some systems of production and exchange corresponds to certain systems of political organization? If so, what are these inter-relationships and why do you thing they occur. How do systems of domestic organization integrate with economic and political life?
Part 2. Based on your readings in the Raybeck ethnography (Mad Dogs, Englishmen, and the Errant Anthropologist) how would you describe the economic, political, and domestic organization of the villagers? Provide one example each that illustrate the operation of these systems in daily village life.
