QUESTION

How did Americans react to Jay's Treaty?

Reactions to the treaty were severe.

Jay's treaty attempted to resolve disputes between Britain and United States's trade with France.

Democratic-Republicans disliked the treaty very much and argued that Federalists had caved to the British and weakened American power/sovereignty.

On the other hand, others appreciated the treaty. While it didn't completely satisfy them, it prevented a war that would have worsened the economy and brought bloody deaths.

In general, the treaty was mainly unpopular.
