How do phloem and xylem work together?

The xylem is for water transportation, while the phloem is for nutrient transportation from the soil. They both extract water and nutrients from the soil in this way and transport them to the leaves, where occurs. Water is provided for the photosynthetic reaction, which converts sunlight into glucose that the plant can use in its cells as fuel, while the phloem's nutrients are needed for various functions in the plant cells such as ensuring enough chlorophyll is produced to keep the leaves green, and able to transform sunlight into glucose as efficiently as possible.
