How do the cytoskeleton and the cytoplasm contribute to cell's shape?
Support
The cytoplasm is the fluid-like suspension within the cell. It helps to give the cell a 3D structure, as well as a medium for the biochemical processes. The is needed to allow the cell to determine its shape by both allowing the cell to move and by aiding it to maintain function. Some cells must maintain a certain shape to be functional (think the biconcave RBC). Some cells must be able to move around and engulf other cells (think WBC). Without the cooperation of the cytoskeleton and the cytoplasm this would not be possible.
