How do you calculate the repeat sequence for the DNA from a heterozygous individual?
How do you calculate the repeat sequence for the DNA from a heterozygous individual?
For example, I am asked to calculate the number of copies of the repeat sequence from 2 bands of DNA, 600bp and 430bp. This means the person is heterozygous, but I am not sure if I am getting the right answer.
Relevant info:
-16bp repeats
-Primers are outside the repeats: F and R at 130bp and 32bp distances from the repeats respectively
-PCR product will include all of the repeats
-(N = number of repeats)
Size of product = 130bp + 32bp + N*16bp
Am I supposed to calculate the number of repeats separately for each product and then add them together, or do I divide each result by half and add them together?
Thanks in advance!
