QUESTION

How do you determine whether the quantitative variable is discrete or continuous given the length of a piece of string?

The length of a piece of string is a continuous variable.

It can have any value, with a accuracy that only depends on the method of measuring.

Opposed to that are discrete variables, such as the number of glass marbles in a bag - they are countable , and we don't allow halves, or thirds.
