How do you draw a diverging lens ray diagram?
Diverging lens ray diagrams are simple compared to the converging lens as there is only one type of image formed!
Whether the object is inside or outside of the focal point, the ray diagram works the same way.
1) Draw a ray from the top of your object straight towards the lens, and have it refract aligned with the focal point on the same side as the object. This is the topmost ray in the diagram above.
2) Draw a ray from the top of the object straight through the center of the lens.
3) Your image will be where the refracted rays or the rays leaving the lens converge. The dashed lines represent the tracing back that must be done for the topmost ray.
These lines will always meet on the same side as the object, always giving you a virtual image!
