How does chemical weathering differ from mechanical weathering?
When any fluid reacts with the initial composition of a mineral or a rock, an addition, exchange or replacement of ions takes place, i.e initial composition is altered, defined as chemical .
Difference in mechanical and chemical weathering is that the former one causes only disintegration into fragments, i.e. composition of the original rock is not changed while in chemical weathering it does changes.
