How is Mendel's law of segregation and meiosis similar?
Mendel did not know but he noticed that characters of the next generation is controlled by alleles(different forms of the same gene) inherited from both father and mother
in law of segregation Mendel said that each character is determined by 2 alleles one inherited from father and the other from mother , in segregation : the 2 alleles inside father germ cell separate(segregate) and each allele goes to 1 sperm and that occurs also in mother where 2 alleles separate(segregate) and each one goes to one ova .
this separation occurs in meiosis in anaphase (in fact there are 2 anaphases occur in meosis 1 and 2 )of meiosis where chromosomes separate to each pole of the germ cell to produce 2 sperms or 2 ovas each containing on allele then after fertilization fusion of ovum and sperm occur so that the Zygote contains 2 alleles.
