QUESTION

How many constellations do we have in the night sky?

##88##

There are ##88## officially recognised modern constellations.

Which will appear in your night sky depends on which hemisphere you live in, or more precisely what latitude, time of year and time of night you are observing from.

In theory you could see all of the constellations at some time if you are observing from the equator, but some will always be quite low in the sky.

Interestingly, the Inca civilisation recognised at least seven dark constellations in the form of darker patches of the Milky Way, in addition to light constellations.
