Written Report

Following the Oral Presentation, students have no more than 10 business days to submit their written report to their

Faculty Advisor and the Practicum Coordinator. Students should also submit the written report in the Practicum Resource

Center. Once a passing grade is received, the student will be approved for the MPH 699 Capstone course, which will be

scheduled for their last course of the program. Please view the Degree Progress Report in the student portal for an

outline of all program requirements.

The written report must be at least 10 pages in length, excluding appendices, be double-spaced using 12-point type

(Times New Roman or Calibri), and paginated. Write with a non-expert audience in mind. This paper may be written in the

first person (using “I”) since it is a discussion of a personal experience. Grading is based on student meeting each of the

elements below as noted in the MPH Practicum Written Report Evaluation Form (Step 12).

• Abstract: Summary or overview of the key points of the practicum.

• Introduction: Background of the project including a definition of the public health issue being addressed, its

significance, and how it fits with the purpose/mission of the organization. Describe the organization overseeing

the project(s), its purpose and/or mission statement, and funding sources.

• Discussion: Describe your role in the project, including activities in which you were involved. Assess whether the

proposed goals and objectives were appropriate in addressing the problem. Include a discussion of barriers that

were identified and how you addressed them.

• Personal Assessment: Describe how this practicum has contributed to an understanding of public health

practice. Identify at least four Public Health Competencies that were applied during the MPH practicum.

• Conclusions and Recommendations: Anticipated or suggested further action on the project resulting from

project work and outcomes.

• References: Use standard APA guidelines. Note: Appendices may be added to the report but will not count

towards the 10-page length requirement. All materials developed by the student as a part of the practicum

should be included in the appendices.

Please remember to include the MPH Practicum Written Report Evaluation Form (Step 12), located in the Practicum

Resource Center, the Checklist, and Appendix A, with the paper when submitting it to your Faculty Advisor. If the Faculty

Advisor finds a revision is necessary for a passing grade, the student will be given sufficient time to do so.
