Integrating literature into social studies curriculum helps students develop their understanding of the content as well as develop their reading comprehension and understanding. Children’s literature provide authentic opportunities for students to immerse themselves into a given topic or person.  The purpose of this project is for you to integrate children’s literature into a mini-lesson of your choosing.

Task: Pick a mini-lesson to teach students about the social studies subject of interest to you. Find a children's literature book that can be integrated and supplement the social studies content in the mini-lesson. Construct a mini-lesson over the chosen topic (using the template). No more than 30 minutes. Integrate literature into the mini-lesson as a means to support the concept.
