According to their mission statement, J.B. Hunt is "Creating the most efficient transportation network in North America. We continuously look for new ways that our people, process and technology can be used to move freight transportation forward" (jbhunt.com). 

History

Based out of Lowell, Arkansas, J.B. Hunt has "nearly 60 years of industry experience. J.B. Hunt has grown from five trucks and seven trailers to a Fortune 500 company providing a variety of services for customers throughout the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico... Founded by Johnnie Bryan Hunt and Johnelle Hunt in 1961, the company’s continued growth is ingrained with innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit of our founders" (jbhunt.com). 

Uniqueness

J.B. Hunt is always looking for ways to set themselves apart from other supply chain companies. In 2019 they were "one of the first seven carriers to be named a Certified Cold Carrier by the International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA), a core partner of the Global Cold Chain Alliance. The Certified Cold Carrier program recognizes carrier organizations for their commitment to sanitary and safe transportation of perishable products" (Business Insights, 2019). Greer Woodruff, senior vice president of safety, security, and driver personnel at JB Hunt said, "This certification displays our commitment to the safe transportation of our nation's food supply and represents the hard work and attention to detail our drivers and personnel provide on a daily basis" (Business Insights, 2019). 

J.B. Hunt is also a frontrunner in technology among logistics companies. Also in 2019 they launched what they call 360box, which "introduce[d] a pool of 500 additional 53-foot trailers businesses can reserve for drop trailer purposes, with plans to accelerate the available units as market demand grows." (Business Insights,2019) This new program allows "Carriers [to] make offers to transport the trailers using Carrier 360 by JB Hunt, the company's digital freight matching platform designed to help carriers save money, spend more time driving and have an overall better experience. The new service is a part of JB Hunt's continued effort to create the most efficient transportation network in North America"  (Business Insights, 2019).  Since the initial launch, J.B Hunt has been making improvements to the platform. They have also created and integrated app that can be used by carriers and drivers alike. 

Stock Performance

Being a company that focuses on innovation and keeping up with demands of the market has proven useful when it comes to its stock price. In May, 2019, just before launching 360box, J.B Hunt's stock price was $85.14 per share. As of this writing their stock price is $163.02. That is quite impressive, in my opinion.
