This provided inexpensive labour supply that has helped Germany’s booming post-war economy. Presently, the Turkish are regarded as the largest ethnic minority in the country. A debate on whether to integrate them in the education system is a pressing issue that has seen Chancellor Angela Merkel be intermittently changing her take on the issue. One day, she is in support of the Turks and seemed to embrace immigration but on another day, she condemns it. The cultural and economic problems of integration for immigrants from Turkey have been deemed to have an overall negative effect on the social and economic levels on the countries that accept them.
